Tae-guk With A Bren

My Ninja Family's North Korean Commando girl Kim Tae-guk is ready to unleash hell upon Daddy with a Bren light machine gun.

Fun fact : the Korean People's Army still uses the Bren LMG as the squad automatic weapon in their infantry units.

History of the North Korean Bren :

In the 1920's Czech arms manufacturer Ceskoslovenska Zbrojovka of Brno designed a supremely good light machine gun, the vz/30, in 7.92mm Mauser caliber.

It was adopted by the British army just in time for World War II (1939-45). With modifications to fire the british rimmed .303 caliber cartridge, it was manufactured at the Enfield Factory in England where it got it's new name, the BRno ENfield machine gun.

When Canada joined the war in 1939 the household appliances manufacturer Inglis switched from making washing machines and refrigirators to small arms production, the Bren being their main product.

Then in 1941 the Japanese joined the war on the Axis side and that made the Chinese resistance our allies. Since the Chinese resistance -Chiang Kai-chek's Nationalists and Mao Zedong's Communists- were using the popular Mauser rifle as their basic armament, the Bren got re-engineered to the original 7.92mm caliber.

These gun then were shipped to China by the Americans. Mao's communists in turn provided some of these to Kim Il Sung's anti-japanese guerrilla band.

This means that later, during the Korean War (1950-53), Canadian, British, and American soldiers got shot at by U.S. supplied Canadian made British guns. Oh the irony.

After the war when the KPA re-equipped itself with all soviet weaponry, they kept the Bren who had served them so well in their war of liberation, only modifying it for the 7.62mm rimmed soviet cartidge.

Nowadays the North Koreans manufacture their own Bren-based machine guns. The originals from the War of Liberation are prized artefacts that the current Leader awards to units of the KPA when he visits them. They are as precious to them as regimental colours are in Western Armies.

When Tae-guk wants to do a good job of turning Daddy into swiss cheese, she could hardly make a better choice than a Bren LMG.
